Power BI Developer

About the role

Upside Analytics, a data and analytics consulting firm serving banks, hedge funds, asset managers and other data-intensive businesses, is hiring a Power BI Developer for its delivery team in Almaty. You will build Power BI reports, semantic models and DAX calculations for financial services clients across the US, UK, Europe and Asia. The role sits in a team of Power BI Developers, Data Engineers, Business Analysts and Project Managers and covers the full analytics lifecycle, from understanding a client's business problem to delivering and supporting a production solution.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop Power BI reports and dashboards for client projects
• Build scalable, well-structured Power BI semantic models
• Write DAX measures and analytical calculations
• Prepare and transform data with Power Query
• Use SQL to retrieve, validate, investigate and analyse data
• Translate business requirements into clear analytical solutions and check results against source systems
• Improve report performance, usability and maintainability
• Work with Data Engineers on source data, pipelines and data models
• Take part in requirement discussions, testing, deployment and production support

Required profile

• Ability to solve ambiguous problems independently and take ownership of your work
• Curiosity about both the data and the business behind it
• At least B2 English; C1 or strong professional working proficiency is highly preferred, as English is a daily working language
• Comfortable joining meetings and calls in English, discussing requirements, explaining your approach and writing clear documentation

Required skills

• Power BI, including production-quality reports
• DAX and analytical logic
• Power Query and data transformation
• SQL for analysis and data validation
• Relational databases and data modelling: fact and dimension tables, relationships and star schemas

Preferred but not required: experience with Microsoft Fabric, financial services or banking, international clients or distributed teams. Strong performers can take on broader technical ownership, client communication, architecture discussions, mentoring and leadership as the company grows.
