Manager of the Department of Accounting and Financial Reporting

About the role

Nazarbayev University is looking for a Manager of the Department of Accounting and Financial Reporting in Astana. The role covers the accounting of fixed assets, inventory movements, tax compliance, financial statement preparation under IFRS and the supervision of related internal documents.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out the accounting of fixed assets and intangible assets of the University and ensure the accounting of inventory movements.
• Calculate taxes on time for the area of responsibility and provide tax, statistical and other reports.
• Accept, verify and register primary documents, ensuring their safety and preparing them for archiving.
• Take part in preparing financial statements in accordance with IFRS and in developing methodological and regulatory internal documents.
• Organise asset and accounts receivable/payable inventories and consider and amend contracts and internal documents within the scope of authority.
• Act as temporary replacement for another manager during their absence (up to one month).
• Ensure labour and performance discipline, protect the integrity of official documents and prevent leaks of confidential information, and hand over documentation and inventory on departure.

Required profile

• Higher professional education, preferably from an institution with English-language instruction.
• Priorities: accounting and auditing, finance, economics.
• Experience defined according to the standard qualifications for administrative positions at Nazarbayev University.
• Fluency in English, Kazakh and Russian.

Required skills

• Knowledge of IFRS and tax reporting forms; ACCA DipIFR/ACCA/CPA, RK professional accountant or equivalent certificates preferred.
• Good understanding of IT in accounting and knowledge of tax programs of the State Revenue Committee.
• Analytical skills and knowledge of 1C, MS Office, Excel and PowerPoint.
• Leadership, teamwork, critical thinking and interpersonal skills.

The selection process includes a preliminary screening, assessments such as work samples and in-basket exercises, and formal interviews conducted in English.
