Principal Civil/Structural Engineer

About the role

Wood is seeking a Principal Civil/Structural Engineer to join its Operations business in Atyrau, Kazakhstan. The role focuses on delivering high‑quality structural designs for oil and gas petrochemical projects, ensuring compliance with local standards and international codes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform computer‑aided and manual structural analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in line with RoK Standards and Eurocodes.
• Design concrete foundations for all building types, adhering to applicable codes.
• Collaborate with the CSA group and other disciplines to clarify design requirements and optimise solutions.
• Review calculations and designs prepared by junior engineers, providing constructive feedback.
• Contribute to Basis of Design documents, design reports, FEED studies, job packs and material requisitions.
• Sign off drawings and key documents, produce CTRs, and conduct site surveys and inspections as needed.
• Offer technical guidance to less‑experienced engineers and support vendor bid evaluations.

Required profile

• Higher technical education in civil or structural engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in the oil and gas petrochemical sector.
• Professional proficiency with engineering standards, processes, and applicable codes.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and staying current with regulatory changes.
