Head, Subregional Office for North and Central Asia

About the role

The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) seeks a senior professional to lead its Subregional Office for North and Central Asia (SONCA). Based in Almaty, the incumbent will represent ESCAP across eight countries, fostering regional cooperation, connectivity, and sustainable development.

Key responsibilities

• Act as ESCAP’s representative in the North and Central Asian subregion, promoting member government participation and subregional development cooperation.
• Formulate, lead, and implement the Subregional Office’s programme of work, determining priorities and allocating resources for timely delivery of outputs.
• Support the Special Programme for Economies of Central Asia (SPECA), including its Governing Council, Economic Forum, and thematic working groups.
• Ensure subregional activities align with ESCAP’s strategic framework and core mandate.
• Advise ESCAP senior leadership on emerging subregional issues, providing context‑aware recommendations.
• Provide inputs to ESCAP Headquarters divisions for programme development, coordinating with governments, UN entities, and other stakeholders.
