Chief Accountant

About the role

We are looking for a mature leader to drive accounting and tax compliance, manage the accounting department and support strategic decisions for our Almaty operations.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure full compliance with Kazakhstan accounting legislation, the Tax Code, National Accounting Standards and IFRS.
• Lead the accounting team, oversee transaction recording, conduct performance reviews and set goals.
• Prepare accurate financial reports on position, performance and changes.
• Maintain and update internal accounting and tax policies and methodologies.
• Manage primary document flow, electronic invoicing (ESF), purchase and payment approvals and supplier/client onboarding.
• Oversee collection, storage and archiving of accounting records and corporate documents.
• Monitor legislative changes and update internal controls accordingly.
• Identify tax, customs and commercial risks, propose mitigation and advise sales, operations and other functions.
• Review and approve statutory reporting such as CIT, VAT, withholding tax and CFC.
• Prepare and submit CIT advance payments, manage salary payments and ensure timely tax obligations.
• Coordinate with external consultants, auditors and tax authorities.
• Manage banking relationships, service agreements and payment reconciliations.
• Support compliance with personal data protection, labor and payroll legislation.
• Close monthly/annual reporting periods and produce management reports.
• Participate in budgeting, planning and annual asset inventory.

Required profile

• 7+ years of accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of Kazakhstan accounting legislation, Tax Code, National Accounting Standards and IFRS.
• Proven ability to lead and develop an accounting team.
• Experience in tax risk assessment, statutory reporting and liaison with tax authorities.
• Proficiency in electronic invoicing, banking relationships and document flow management.
• Solid understanding of financial planning, budgeting, period closing and dividend distribution.
• Fluent English communication.
