About the role

This senior position leads the English and School Education (ESE) portfolio of contracts and programmes in Kazakhstan for the British Council. The role provides technical sector expertise, drives business development and ensures high‑quality, compliant delivery of programmes that improve English teaching, learning and assessment standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and manage the in‑country ESE team, aligning them with global strategy, policy and performance standards.
• Oversee business development, bid preparation and contract negotiations with strategic partners and donors.
• Ensure compliance with funder guidelines, procurement rules, reporting and visibility requirements across all contracts.
• Build and maintain relationships with UK and local ELT stakeholders, ministries, education agencies and professional networks.
• Provide sector expertise, contribute to research, policy advice and the design of evidence‑based teaching resources.
• Manage programme budgets, financial reporting and performance monitoring, delivering regular business performance reports.
• Coordinate monitoring and evaluation plans, capture lessons learned and develop reusable intellectual assets.
• Collaborate with regional and global ESE leadership to ensure consistent HR, performance management and inclusion standards.
