Internship in Economic Affairs – SDGs & SPECA Support

About the role

The Subregional Office for North and Central Asia (SONCA) in Almaty is seeking an intern to support research, analysis, and coordination activities related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the United Nations Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA). The position offers exposure to regional policy work and multi‑stakeholder engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct SDG‑related research, prepare analytical notes and policy briefs.
• Assist with SPECA research, documentation, and stakeholder outreach.
• Support connectivity research covering energy, transport, and ICT corridors.
• Help organize meetings, consultations and collaborative initiatives.
• Provide logistical and administrative support for conferences, workshops and expert group meetings.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or recent graduate of a university program in economics, international relations, development studies or a related field.
• Strong analytical and writing abilities.
• Interest in regional cooperation, sustainable development and connectivity issues.
• Ability to work under supervision of the Programme Officer and Associate Economic Affairs Officer.
