Principal / Senior Process Engineer – Expression of Interest

About the role

Wood is seeking an experienced Principal / Senior Process Engineer to join its Atyrau team in Kazakhstan. The role involves leading conceptual and detailed design activities for a wide range of process plants, providing technical guidance, and ensuring compliance with international O&G standards.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct conceptual studies and basic design for oil & gas, refinery, petrochemical, ammonia, ethylene, mineral processing, specialty chemicals, pipeline and water‑treatment projects.
• Prepare heat and material balances, develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping & instrument diagrams (P&IDs).
• Specify equipment such as heat exchangers, vessels, pumps and reactors, and perform necessary calculations.
• Create process simulation models using HYSYS, PIPENET, FLARENET and optimise controls.
• Develop cause‑and‑effect diagrams, line lists, tie‑in schedules and write design philosophies, operating and commissioning manuals.
• Participate in safety reviews including HAZOP and SIL studies.
• Lead small/medium projects or sections of larger projects, managing planning, budgeting and coordination of all process‑engineering activities.
• Provide technical guidance and coaching to junior engineers.

Required profile

• Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in process engineering design.
• Proven experience preparing design documentation in line with Kazakhstan regulatory requirements.
• Strong knowledge of international oil & gas standards.

Required skills

• Process simulation tools: HYSYS, PIPENET, FLARENET.
• Heat and material balance calculations.
• Development of PFDs and P&IDs.
• Equipment specification (heat exchangers, vessels, pumps, reactors).
• Cause‑and‑effect diagram preparation.
• HAZOP and SIL safety review participation.
