Legal Counsel – Banking & FinTech

About the role

Alatau City Bank is expanding its Digital Legal team and seeks a proactive, business‑oriented lawyer to support banking, payments, fintech and digital‑asset initiatives. The role combines strong legal fundamentals with practical judgment in a fast‑changing regulatory environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day legal support for digital‑asset related products and operations.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, partnership contracts, technology agreements and financial‑services documentation.
• Structure new products and business models from a legal and regulatory perspective.
• Prepare legal opinions and risk assessments on banking, payments, fintech, digital assets, consumer protection and data protection matters.
• Support communications with regulators and government authorities.
• Participate in the implementation of new financial products, partnerships and strategic initiatives.
• Develop internal policies, templates and legal processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
• Act as a trusted legal business partner to product, operations, compliance and management teams.

Required profile

• Law degree from a leading university.
• 5+ years of relevant legal experience in a law firm, Big 4, financial institution, payment organization or fintech.
• Strong knowledge of Kazakhstan legislation (civil, corporate, banking, payments, regulatory).
• Experience drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.
• Ability to independently identify legal risks and propose practical solutions.
• Excellent legal writing, analytical and communication skills.
• Fluent in English and Russian; Kazakh is an advantage.
